چکیده

Introduction According to the wavefront-phenomenon myocardial infarction scar should have a larger extent on the subendocardial than the subepicardial surface. This is important for differentiating ischemic from nonischemic lesions in late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) images. In hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy septal ablation (TASH) with injection of microparticles instead of ethanol represents a controlled model of iatrogenic embolic infarction. We compared cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) scar patterns after microparticle-induced TASH with those after clinical embolic infarctions from other sources.

Mechanisms of bihemispheric brain infarctions in the anterior circulation on diffusion-weighted images.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Multiple acute brain infarctions in both cerebral hemispheres usually suggest an embolic mechanism, particularly one of aortic or cardiac origin. The purpose of this study was to clarify the etiologic mechanisms and topographic features of bihemispheric infarctions depicted on diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI). METHODS Among 411 consecutive patients with ischemic stroke ...

Analysis of the Lesion Distributions and Mechanism of Acute Middle Cerebral Artery Infarctions Involving the Striatocapsular Region

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE There is no clear description about the patterns of each mechanism of striatocapsular infarctions. The aims of our study were to elucidate differences in the distributions of lesions of acute middle cerebral artery (MCA) infarctions involving the striatocapsular region and to compare those following embolic striatocapsular infarctions with those originating from MCA disea...

Effect of percutaneous coronary interventions for in-stent restenosis in degenerated saphenous vein grafts without distal embolic protection.

OBJECTIVES This study was designed to investigate the impact of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs) in degenerated saphenous vein grafts (SVGs) without distal embolic protection. BACKGROUND Distal embolic protection devices have been shown to reduce the incidence of no reflow/slow flow during PCI of de novo lesions in degenerated SVGs. It is unclear whether PCI of in-stent restenosis (...

Embolic protection during saphenous vein graft intervention using a second-generation balloon protection device: results from the combined US and European pilot study of the TriActiv Balloon Protected Flush Extraction System.

BACKGROUND Stent placement in saphenous vein bypass grafts is associated with a high incidence of myonecrosis usually resulting from embolization of thrombus and friable atheroma. Embolic protection devices reduce the incidence of adverse events after vein graft stenting. However, first-generation balloon occlusion systems are still associated with a 10% incidence of periprocedural adverse even...

Silent Microbleeds and Hemorrhagic Conversion of an Embolic Infarction

We report a patient with multiple simultaneous embolic infarctions with localized hemorrhagic conversion. A 75-year-old male patient had several silent microbleeds (SMBs) exclusively in the cerebral cortex, and underwent angioplasty and stenting for bilateral carotid stenosis. He subsequently experienced embolic infarctions in the cortex and the striatum: the cortical infarction, where an SMB h...
